Project 2: Essay Writing
(Individual) This essay discussed the heritage impact of World Heritage Sites on the local people, with Malaysia's Melaka City taken as a main point of reference. It explored the influences of architectural conservation and tourism turnout and vice versa.
Essay
This essay took in several scholarly articles as well as personal blogs as references to understand multiple perspectives on the management of heritage promotion and conservation in historic Melaka city. Then, it highlighted the achievements and shortcomings of the current plan. This exercise exposed me to a more complicated side of this state.

MLO 1 - Recognize the importance of conserving heritage buildings and sites.
The conservation of a site's intangible and tangible heritage allows for it to maintain its sense of place. This uniqueness to the site invokes a sense of pride while preserving the historical and cultural significance of its establishment.

It is difficult to ensure the longevity of a site's heritage while also fulfilling the economic and social demands of the people who live and/or are influenced by the site.

In terms of the management of development within Melaka, or Malacca city, there is an issue of inconsiderate decision making that fails to respect the opinions of those most directly affected by those decisions.

This exercise encouraged objective evaluation as well as empathetic reasoning of decisions taken in conservation and tourism planning, looking to multiple perspectives and sources to form opinions.

Preserving the architectural heritage of a place not only preserves the sense of place but also its value as a tnagible heritage that can be experienced and documented. It is this value that encourages tourism in an area.
