Assignment 1: Reading the context of Traditional Street
(Ind) From a list of several streets that composed Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown, I chose Jalan Sultan as the subject of my research. This was due to the street being heavily frequented by my parents when they first settled in Selangor to begin a life together.
We were to observe the physical and non-physical qualities that give the street its place identity and socio-cultural significance. These observations will then be compiled into several handdrawn illustrations.
Through consulting various sources such as the official websites of the old-time businesses and societies, my own parents' accounts, and architectural articles on the street's buildings, I compiled several historically significant facts about the street.
