Project 2: Fransworth House Drawing and Models

(Ind) Over the course of 4 weeks, we were to make a model and prepare a series of drawings of the Fransworth House in Plano, Illinois. This project was divided into 4 parts:

   2a: Model Making

   2b: Orthographic Projections

   2c: Axonometric Projections

   2d: Perspectives

P2A: Model Making

Our module coordinators provided us with the measurements as well as different views of the Fransworth house. Referencing actual photos of the house, I selected suitable materials and calculated each part that I needed.

The final model is a little flawed as I mistook the position of the entrance's glass walls. They're supposed to overlap slightly with the edge of the stairs. Still, the overall model is rather clean other than the small bits of glue.

P2B: Orthographic Projections

Now, with a clear vision of the house, we had to create at least 4 orthographic drawings of the house.

P2C: Axonometric Projection

Through workshops, we learned how to translate the orthographic drawings from the previous part into perspective.

P2D: Perspectives

Through online lectures, we learned how to translate the orthographic drawings from the previous part into one-point and two-point perspectives.

Reflection

MLO 2
Architecture Model Sketching

MLO 2 - Interpret visual information into 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional orthographic drawings.

I had to think in 3D in order to fully understand the different views and the relationship between them, then translate that into the drawings, trusting the process of measurement and calculation.

TGC 4.1. Cultivating the ability to speak effectively  in various environments and modes.

I was able to show a definite relationship between all of the drawings and replicate the house. However, some mistakes were definitely made and must be avoided in the future.
